After much thought. One thing stuck out at me about which way I should go. Deserts have almost no water. That alone was enough to send this fish down the rivers.
I put together a small boat and set sail. People have always asked why me, being a fish, would use a boat. Firstly, swimming is far more tiring. Secondly, a wet suit, isn't good for business.
The trees were amazingly tall, taller than most of the ones I found on Portazo Island. The leaves of the trees were so thick that the moonlight couldn't penetrate them, creating large areas of pitch black darkness. I climbed out of my boat and began to explore cautiously on foot.
Being out in the open in an unexplored place, wasn't the smartest move I felt. I began to look for a good place to hide until morning. After a bit I found a small cave.
The cave wasn't deep enough or large enough to provide good shelter, so I continued to look. The monsters in the area hadn't taken notice of me just yet. As I turned around and left the cave I noticed a spider peering in. He made a noise and began to chase me. I ran out from the cave and swung a torch in the spider's face as I ran past him. Quickly I ran through a river and really tripped and fell into a hole in the middle of the river.
I looked back and saw the spider had gather himself some friends and they were all headed towards me. Without a second thought I dove into the water. The currently sucked me in and tossed me out on the cold damp floor of a dark cave.
The air was wet and stagnant. The only noises I could hear was the running water. I grabbed a torch and pick and dug a small hole to place the torch in. The light revealed a few veins of coal, and a small vein of iron. I began collecting them when I noticed something out of place.
There in the floor was a few bricks. Most of the were cracked and worn. I carefully pulled the bricks out and a warm gust of air came into the cave from the opening. I looked inside and found a small room made of bricks and glowstone.
It looked ancient. Some of the bricks were cracked and mold was growing in places. I could hear skeletons coming from somewhere. I grabbed my stone sword and cautiously entered the room, looking for traps. I went through the small door way and found a skeleton staring me dead in the face.
Not sure of what else to do I charged him with my sword. after a moment I noticed another skeleton further up the cave.
With the current from the water pouring against me I was at a slight disadvantage. Carefully I fought my way up the cave, hiding behind the bends in the cave when I could to avoid being shot. As I made if about halfway up the cave, I saw pale light pouring in.
This was obviously the way out. As I swam against the current I felt a sharp pain in my back. I swung around, flailing my sword wildly and cleaved a skeleton in half. I then saw three strange cages will small crude effigies of skeletons on fire inside.
Quickly I broke the cages and threw the effigies down the cave and watched the current flowing away. Somehow I knew these cages were responsible for those skeletons. I turned back around and continued to swim toward the mouth of the cave.
I took a moment to catch my breath. I found a small bit of iron ore in the cave wall and collected that. The sky was still dark and I could see the stars shining. Even though it was still the dead of night, I decided to leave the cave. I needed to get home, before I got myself into any worse trouble than I already had.
I found myself back in the middle of that swamp I was in before. I jumped across the lily pads and found my boat. The rain made it even harder to see, which thankfully let me make it back to my boat safely. I climbed in and began to row back down the river.
As my house got into site, I saw a zombie sitting in the middle of the river.
I quickly got my boat moving as fast as I could and jumped out. The boat tore through the water and hit the zombie, knocking him flat. While he struggled to get up, I quickly ran to him and slayed him. I climbed back into the boat and rowed closer to shore. Waiting for me was a small group of creepers and spiders.
All of them noticed me at the same time. As the group got closer I heard the ominous hissing of the creepers. Quickly I dove out of my boat and into the water. I heard a muffled explosion and looked up in time to see small bits of spider and creeper go everywhere. I swam back to the surface and headed for the shore. At this point the adrenaline was going so hard, I couldn't even think about or see anything but the door to my shelter. I sprinted to my shelter and nearly kicked down the door. Slamming the door behind me I collapsed. Soaked, exhausted, and scared, I climbed into my bed and collapsed.
The next morning, I decided to take some of the iron I had and make some better tools. After I had an iron sword and pickaxe, I felt more comfortable to explored. With the sun in full shine, I returned to where the rivers met and found my boat waiting for me.
I swam out to it and climbed back in. This time I decided to go and explore the other river. Hopefully this one would lead someplace safer and brighter. A small ways down the river though I noticed the currently pulled strangely into the side of the canyon. I looked and saw what looked like another opening to a cave.
I climbed out of my boat and went in further to investigate. Sure enough, this looked like another cave opening.
I dove in a little deeper to try to see how big the cave was. The current suddenly became stronger taking me by surprise. I grasped at the walls and the sand and dirt broke away. The water pushed me out and I landed in a large pile of mud. I stood up and looked around. I could barely see in the cave, thanks to small amount of light coming from the sun peaking through the opening I just fell through.
