Portazo Island Entry #11

I carried on the to end of this branch of the cave and took the skeleton waiting there by surprise. I turned back around and collected the ores I could as I returned to the last branching point in the cave. As i was mining some iron a small amount of gravel came pouring down nearly missing me. I decided that it'd be best to be a little more careful mining in the roof of the cave.

When I reached the point where the caves branched out I did find a small hole in a wall. I could see much through it. I turned back around and looked down the unexplored path from before. Standing there I saw a zombie headed straight for me. I swiftly dispatched him and carried on through the cave. The cave quickly opened up into a large open room. I decided here might be a good place to set up another small work area.

I placed some torches to light up the room up and made another work table and furnace. Just as I finished setting up the furnace a skeleton came from the path I had just come from. I quickly killed the skeleton and explored the room a bit more. I also looked down some of the openings in the room. I noticed that one of them led straight into the ravine I had found earlier.

I didn't feel ready to tackle the ravine quite yet so I explored another path. After a little while I found a part of of the cave where it seemed to go almost completely straight up.

I climbed to the top, moving rocks where I could and once I reached the top I found a dead end. I carefully went back down and returned to my room in the caves. I found a small opening just below the path I had just explored. I took my pick and opening it up some more only to find a sharp drop with lava waiting for me at the bottom. I could see a few safe foot holds, but with my pack nearly full I decided to head back up to my original base camp in the mines.

Portazo Island Entry #10

As I stepped into the cave the cold stale air filled my lungs. I grabbed my sword and some torches and began to explore. I decided to head left first. A little ways into the cave it branched out into two paths. I took the left path again, taking metal notes of exposed ores so I could collect them once I felt safe. Once I reached the end of the path, I turned around and checked the other. The right side path of the cave led upwards. As I climbed through leaving torches to light my way, I found some sand stone. The cave felt a little colder in this area and I could hear what sounded like water above me. I decided it's be best to try to maneuver around this area without disturbing the rocks. I didn't want to flood the cave after all.

After I climbed around the sandstone, I found that the path ended only shortly after that. I grabbed my pick and began to mine out whatever minerals I could see as I returned to where I broke through into the cave. When I returned I began to climb up the right path. After a little the path dropped suddenly switched back into a tight deep tunnel. I placed a few torches and then slowly began my decent.

As I climbed down I slipped and nearly fell down a sharp drop. I caught myself and looked down. If I had fell there would have been no way for me to jump back up. I grabbed my pick and dug a small crude stairway so I could come back up later.

After the drop the cave opened up again into what looked like two more paths. I was beginning to wonder if anything lived in this silent cave. I took the right path and found an area with some gravel blocking the path. I could see some running water behind it. I decided that I would check the other path before I dug through this area.

The left path looked a lot larger that the whole rest of the cave system. As I lit the cave up some more I began to notice more and more sparkling from the ores in the cave walls. I even found some gold. Trying to keep my head on straight I searched the cave a little more and found a massive hole in the ground.

I decided before going into the hole I would search the rest of this area, so nothing would follow me down. I followed one of the paths and shortly found a massive underground ravine crawling with monsters. I quickly turned around hoping nothing spotted me.

As I took the other path I notice this one also opened into the same ravine. I looked in terror as the monsters howled at me from the other side of the ravine.

I carefully stepped back through and followed the rest of the path. Once again the cave split in two directions. Wanting to get as far from the ravine as possible, I decided to take the path on the right. As I walked down the path 3 of those horrid green beast came tearing down the cave towards me.

I ran as fast as I could. I tripped on a rock and turned around grabbing my sword I swung at one of them. It began to hiss and expand. I jumped up and ran just as the one I struck exploded. Bit of rock flew throughout the cave many of them hitting me. I turned around and saw that the explosion had killed the other two. I noticed a decent amount of grey powder. I collected it thinking it may have some use later.

I sat for a moment and tried to calm down after this near death experience. I took some bread from my pack and dug in while I caught my breath. As I continued down the path I nearly jumped out of my scales as I caught a glimpse of yet another one of the creepy green things. As I stepped in the room, he turned and stared at me. there was only a small hole in the rocks and the creature couldn't get through, despite his best efforts.

I cautiously stepped towards him drawing my sword. I swung my sword through the hole and the beast. He hissed and tried harder to reached me. After a few more swings the creature bled to death and collapsed lifeless to the ground. I dug through the wall and carried on through this dangerous cave system.

With two new friends and a whole new day ahead of me I set out once more. The orange cat stayed home to guard the house whilst the black and white one came with me. I decided to begin a mine closer to home, right by the pond I was fishing in earlier. As I began to dig the cat looked in and rather than follow me in, the cat decided to guard the entrance.

After I dug down for a little I started to hollow out a small room that I could use as a base camp while mining. I made a work bench and a door to prevent anything from following me into my mines. While hollowing out the room I did manage to find a small bit of iron.

After I finished the room I dug the beginning of three paths into each wall of the room. I took a moment to catch my breath again and decided to start in on the path directly across from me. I dug for hours. Once I noticed I was beginning to get hungry I realized I left all of my food back in my home. I climbed back to the top and put the iron I had collected into the furnace in my mining camp as I left.

I went back to my house and grabbed the bread I had made along with some more wood. I also grabbed my farming tools and decided to harvest my crop. After harvesting the crop I took some seeds and decided to plant them along the edges of the pond just outside my mine.

After I planted the seeds, I returned to the mines and grabbed the iron from the furnace and made myself a new iron shovel and a new iron pickaxe. I went down the mine again and after a little bit of digging I found an odd red glowing vein of ore. I grabbed my strongest pick and swung at it. No solid chunks of ore came from this odd rock. Just glowing red dust. The dust seemed to resemble the same dust used in the trap that I found on the island I had found before. I decided to sweep if up and stash it into my pack. I continued to dig down and after only a little bit longer I had reached a dark porous layer of rock. I swung a few times with my pick and it seemed to do more damage to my tools that it did to the rock. I figure this was as deep as I would be able to dig, so I headed back up to my base camp.

I decided to try my luck on another branch of the mine, as the first one wasn't as profitable as I had hoped. After a bit of mining, I found myself at the same layer of unbreakable rock as before. I decided to head back up again and mine down in the final available branch. After only a small bit of mining, I broke though into a cave.

Portazo Island Entry #8

With just a little bit of time left before sunset I decided to go fishing in the pond nearby hoping to have better luck there than I did in the ocean. And surprisingly I did. I managed to catch 3 decent sized fish before it got dark and I returned home.

The next day I woke after having a terrifying dream involving fishing hooks and sock puppets, but I'd rather not get into that. Despite this obviously guilt inspired dream I decided to try my luck in the ocean again today. After a few moments I caught one fish and then cast my line again. The next fish was obviously a trouble maker. When i reeled him in he went soaring over my head and landed clear on the other side of my house. I think the force of hitting the ground alone might have killed him.

When I returned I decided to climb down a little closer to the water so that if I caught another he wouldn't fly so far. After I caught a final fish I gathered all 6 of my poor brothers and began looking for some of those hungry jungle cats. After a small amount of searching I managed to find a small jungle kitten. I slowly began to approach him, fish in fin. As I approached him he ran off into the jungle and I quickly lost track of him. With sunset on it's way I began to return home only to find a few jungle cats hanging around my home.

As I cautiously approached I noticed more and more of them. Being slightly intimidated I stood there holding the smaller fish out, hoping they'd take them, instead of me. As I inched closer two of the came right up to me staring longing at the fish. I dropped a few of them down and watched as the two of them fought over them. After there was nothing but a pile of scales and bones both of them meowed at me and began to rub up against me. They didn't seem to want to eat me anymore. However, I'm now worried about where I might find a lint brush on this deserted island. As I went back to my house at sunset the two cats followed me in. The orange one quickly jumped up on top of my chest, whilst the black one simply sat near the door. Reluctantly I went to sleep, keeping an eye on them and hoping I wouldn't be devoured in my sleep.

I awoke the next day to the sound of a meow. Frightened I jumped up, and shortly remembered my two new friends. I quickly checked myself for any indications that my two new friends were attempting to eat me. To my surprise I found nothing. Just the two of them sitting and watching me intently.

Portazo Island Entry #7

I jumped into the grotto and placed some torches around in preparation for night. I looked about the grotto and noticed some coal in the roof of the grotto.

I grabbed my pick and carefully collected the bits and as I grabbed the last little bit a small amount of sand fell through the ceiling of the grotto. I could tell this wasn't the safest place to be digging. I turned around and began to dig into the sides of the grotto a bit hoping to find some iron. After a short while my pickaxe shattered to pieces. I looked into my bag and realize that in my rush I had forgotten to bring wood of any sort. Feeling slightly discouraged by this I turned around and looked out the mouth of the grotto. All I could see where the stars and the ocean. I drew my sword and began to wait for daylight, occasionally nodding off.

At the first sign of daylight I ran as quickly as I could out of the small cramped grotto and swam as fast as I could into the ocean, not sure of what creatures would be waiting outside for me. As I suspected there was a zombie just outside waiting for me. I swam a little further from the shore as I noticed another tall black figure there too. The tall black figure didn't seem to notice me, but the zombie sure did.

Being a fish I figured that battling this zombie in the ocean wouldn't be two hard of a problem for me. Sure enough I didn't have a problem out maneuvering him on water. After he was slain I turned to see the glorious sun rising once again. I decided to play it safe and stay in the water. I took a dive or tow and just enjoyed swimming in the ocean for once. It wasn't long before I found myself back at my camp.

Thankfully the lights I left seemed to work, however there were a few jungle cats hanging around the area. I decided to quickly get to work on my shelter so I could get some decent sleep tonight. I was only a few bit of stone away from what I wanted so I went back to the grotto after I made a new pickaxe and collected some more stone. However the eerie black figure was still there. I decided not to bother him remember what happened last time and carefully tiptoed around him.

As I dug deeper down into the grotto I began to hear moaning coming from somewhere nearby. Not wanting to push my luck, I grabbed the stone I had collected and headed back to camp once more. When I returned I set some sand in the furnace to melt into glass and finished laying the foundation for my new home. After the foundation was finished, I took some of the wood I had salvaged from my old hideout and made some pillars to support the structure. It was at this time I noticed night was coming once more.

I ran back to my chest and grabbed a bed and a door and quickly began finishing the walls of my home. I didn't have time to put in the windows and finish the roof entirely. I threw out my bed and slammed the door shut just as I heard skeletons walking around outside.

The noises they were making kept me from sleeping. Trying to find where they were, I decided to open a few holes in the walls and place the windows in. As I opened the first hole a skeleton peered in and shot me. At least I knew now where he was.

I stood there, frightened, and unsure of what to do. After a moment I stood by the window, keeping an eye on the skeleton as he stared in at me. I opened another small hole in the wall and slowly inched toward it. The skeleton crept towards the opening with me. As soon as I could reach him I thrust my sword through the opening and stabbed him. He jumped back just as I stabbed him a second time. I backed away from the hole as he approached my window once more. I tried a second time to hit him with the same trick, but he seemed to have learned and managed to shoot me twice before I was able to attack.

It seemed as if he learned his lesson the first time. I ran quickly to my front door hoping he'd follow me. Sure enough he did. I swung the door open flailing my sword wildly. As my sword struck him he fell releasing one more arrow into my chest. I took a moment to catch my breath, and then went to sleep for the night.

As I awoke I heard the same strange noises that black figure from before had made. As I could only see a small portion of the outside area, I decided to finish the windows of my shelter from the inside. After I got all the windows in I cautiously checked outside to see if I could see anything walking around that might attempt to injure me. I didn't see any immediate threats so I stepped outside and did a quick survey. The only potential threat was a large spider in the nearby brush, but he didn't seem at all interested in me.

I spent the entire day building up a roof for my home and finished it the next morning. After that I moved my furnace and work table inside and then drug in that heavy chest as well. After I had moved everything I had a snack and built myself another furnace. Finally, a home fit for a fish!
